Amy Thursday, April 16, 2009 Email from Matt Travis Dear Friends: My name is Matt Travis, and I'm a current graduate student in conducting at Penn State. After holding successful readings of Mendelssohn's Elijah, The Faure' Requiem, and Haydn's The Creation, I'm delighted to announce our fourth ever "Bring it and Sing it" event. This semester Penn State will host a fully orchestrated reading of Mozart's Requiem on April 17th, at 5:30 pm in room 128 of Music Building II. For those of you who have not attended one of our previous readings, you needn't bring anything except your voice or instrument as Penn State provides the scores and instrumental parts. The Requiem will be conducted by graduate students, and students, faculty, and members of the community are invited and encouraged to attend. Our intent is to unite musicians of all ages and experience a masterwork in a relaxed environment. Please join us afterward for pizza, refreshment and fellowship. Thanks for your consideration, and I hope to see you on the 17th! Matt Monday, April 13, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, women! Only a few more rehearsals before our last concert, seniors! So lets make it a good one! Thanks! Amy Friday, April 3, 2009 Email from President Amy Gilbert Hello my lovely ladies! This email is directed to those of you who drove to Lancaster this past weekend. Ariana, Dr. Drafall and I were brainstorming ways to potentially reimburse gas money to those of you who drove. Here is what we came up with: Ariana is going to need your receipts so she can get you checks. Based on the amount that each girl is owed, and the amount we have in the budget, she will be able to determine if we can pay for everyone's entire gas cost, or if we can cover only half. In order to do this, Ariana needs those receipts by Monday, (Wednesday at the ABSOLUTE latest) So don't forget your receipts if you want to get reimbursed! Thanks Ladies! Amy Tuesday, March 31, 2009 Email from President Amy Gilbert Hello Ladies! I hope you are enjoying the sunshine today! I just wanted to remind everyone to put all of your music back in your folders in preparation for rehearsal tomorrow! Thanks a bunch, and see you tomorrow! We will be LOADING the bus at 12:30 at the music building, so I suggest everyone arrive around 12:15! Be dressed to impress, because you are representing Penn State. Sorry, no jeans ladies! I think I just about covered the basics, so if anyone has any extra questions, just let me know. Thanks girls! See you tomorrow, Amy Friday, March 27, 2009 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Good afternoon, ladies, Just a friendly reminder/tip: Please have your name and section written in your folder somewhere. I will try to remember to bring my silver marker with me. This will make it easier to return any folders that may be put down and not picked right back up. Also, this is the last call for any missing music. If you do not yet have anything we're singing this weekend, I need an email before 10AM tomorrow. Amanda Friday, March 27, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, women: Here's a little housing change... Abbi Conklin is moving into Abby Burnett's place, so she will be rooming with Jillian Newhall. Abby Burnett is ill and will not be able to go with us. See you tomorrow! Dr. Drafall Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Email from President Amy Gilbert Hello Ladies! I hope you are all enjoying the sunshine this morning! I just wanted to send out an email to remind you of a couple of things to check on before rehearsal today. First of all, if anyone is missing music from our repertoire, please let Amanda Weber (ajw5005@psu.edu) know so she can get that for you today. Secondly, as Jess Angeline announced previously, please check to see if you have BOTH of your earrings, and if they are performance ready! If anyone has a problem, just let Jess know today, and she can get you another pair. Lastly, don't forget to look over your German for Emily! We want to make her proud! Even if you just read through it over lunch, or between classes. It will help! Thanks girls, and see you this afternoon! Oriana Love, Amy Wednesday, March 25, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Hi all: Here is an updated housing list with a few changes. Please discard the other one. One of our girls was in a place by herself and that has now been changed. Also, a host family that was dog-less now has a visiting dog staying with them, and the women that were assigned there had dog allergies. Oops! Me Homestay Info Revised Tuesday, March 24, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Hi all: here's the bus/transportation list for our trip this weekend. Section leaders, please make sure that you print this off so that you have an accurate attendance list. Kim, since you are driving, you will need to put someone else in your section in charge of attendance for the Alto Is! Me Bus List Tuesday, March 24, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Hi all: Here is the homestay list for Saturday! Me Homestay Info Sheet Friday, March 20, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Hi again, all: Jana Clinton emailed with this question, and it occurred to me that we had not really talked about it. Yes, you will be wearing your formal concert attire for the concert next Saturday night AND ALSO for Sunday morning. So, it would be best to pack these clothes in a separate garment bag that can be easily accessed on Saturday and again on Sunday when you're changing to get on the bus going home. Black hosiery and black shoes. Hair up off your face and neck. Makeup! Since the majority of you have not had this dress on since Mosaic (the first Sunday of last December), NOW is the time to pull it out, press it, make sure that you don't have zipper issues etc. Consider dry-cleaning? :-) You also should be checking your earrings NOW to take care of any gluing on of gems etc.!!! :) Cordially, Dr. Drafall Friday, March 20, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning! Drivers, please ask your friends to ride with you so they know. By the end of Monday's rehearsal, we need to know who exactly is going to be on the bus - both going to Lancaster and coming back! Thanks! Have a wonderful weekend! Cordially, Dr. Drafall Thursday, March 19, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, Oriana! I am pleased to announce that our soloist for "All That Hath Life and Breath" will be Boyoung Kang. Our soloist for "Was ist Silvia" will be Meghan Hillker. Attached please find a tentative itinerary and program for our trip next week. The address and contact information for the church is on the itinerary for those who wish to attend the concert. The concert is free but a collection will be taken. The program is still tentative - please note that it says "to be selected from" at the top! But, on Monday, we will begin at the top and work our way through to the bottom. Remember that you made an oath to Emily? :) Cordially, Dr. Drafall Itinerary Program Saturday, March 14, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, Oriana members! I'm hoping that this email finds you enjoying your last few precious hours of freedom from school responsibilities before launching into the headlong charge toward the end of the semester! I'm writing to let you know that, on Monday, I'll need to confirm the following information. We've discussed these things casually, but it is now time to nail these details down so that I can communicate with our concert host. 1. Who does NOT require a church member homestay host on Saturday night, March 28? (At home? With relatives/friends?) 2. IF you are staying elsewhere, can you house other people? If so, how many? We need an exact count. 3. Who can drive? How many people can you take? (We need to send approximately 11 people in cars...) So, as you are still relaxing, please take the time to discuss this with friends and family so that you can provide "real" information on Monday during rehearsal. Thanks so much! No need to respond right now - we'll collect the information at one time on Monday afternoon. Thanks! Dr. Drafall Sumday, March 1, 2009 Email from Vice President Jessica Angeline Hey Ladies, If you've spoken to me about a major fit problem, please bring your dress to class Wednesday (Monday I can't stay after class as I have an exam) and we can take a look at it and figure something out. For those of you who just need to get it hemmed and whatnot..... Here is the deal. If you can't sew yourself or have a mom to help you out, you have 2 ways to get that hem fixed. One is for the hands-off oriana girl, the other for the crafty oriana girl: For Hands-Off: Dry cleaners are your best deal for getting your hem done (also good if you want to have other parts of the dress taken in). Balfurd's on the corner of Beaver and Atherton is the most convenient for most girls... Balfurd's 814-237-8066 7 to 7 Monday-Friday 8 to 8 Saturday some other Balfurd locations in State College: 1223 N. Atherton St. State College, PA 814-237-7661 7 to 7 Mon-Fri 9 to 5 Saturday 532 Westerly Parkway State College, PA 814-234-3509 8am to 9pm 7 days a week For the Crafty: If you can get your hands on an iron, safety pins, a friend, and some hem tape (preferbly "super", you can find this at Wal-Mart in the crafts and fabric section or Jo-Ann fabrics), you can hem your dress needle free. NOTE: THIS ISN'T RECOMMENDED IF YOUR HEM IS GOING TO BE HUGE (i.e. like over 3 or 4 inches) Step 1: Put your dress on with the shoes you want to wear for the concert and stand on a stool/bench/chair. Have your friend pin your hem for you by folding in under enough that the dress will then brush the top of your shoes (as Drafall requested). If you think youve used enough pins, put more in. You don't want the hem to shift when you take off the dress prior to securing it. Step 2: Remove dress CAREFULLY, then turn it inside out so you can see the pins and the fold. Try to lay it out flat on the floor. Step 3: Heat Iron on permanent press or whatever setting is nice and hot but WITHOUT steam. Step 4: Follow directions given with hem tape......usually along the lines of place tape between the two pieces of fabric, apply iron with pressure for X number of seconds, and move on to next section. NOTE: I recommend not using a super long piece of tape but rather use one piece per section between the seams (vertical ones you'll see after turning the dress inside out). Step 5: Allow to cool before turning inside out. Any questions feel free to send them my way and I will try my best to answer them! Otherwise get those dresses pretty!!! Jessica C. Angeline Sunday, March 1, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Good evening, women: In tomorrow's rehearsal, we are going to run the FALL semester music to see what can be programmed for our concert in Lancaster at the end of the month. Please do make sure to bring ALL of your repertoire to tomorrow's rehearsal! See you then... Cordially, Dr. Drafall Thursday, February 26, 2009 Email from Dawn Gannon Hey Ladies! Just a quick reminder that The Leading Tones of Sigma Alpha Iota are performing tomorrow at 12:10pm in Eisenhower Chapel. It'd be great to see you there! Thanks, Dawn Gannon Saturday, February 21, 2009 Email from Matt Travis Hello Ladies: It's me, Matt, your long lost assistant conductor/friend. Anyway, today (Feb 21st) at 4 pm in Esber Recital Hall is my graduate conducting recital. Repertoire will include works by: Purcell, Haydn, Rheinberger, and Britten. The recital will be about an hour and food and refreshment will follow. I'm hopeful that it will be a fantastic recital, and it will be worthy of a "Thon Break." Anyway, it'd be great to see many of you there and catch up afterward. Thanks for your consideration! Matt Wednesday, February 4, 2009 Email from Dawn Gannon Hey Girls! So, I mentioned this in choir today but Sigma Alpha Iota is a International Music Fraternity for Women. We come from all different majors and backgrounds, with a common interest--Music. In the fall of 2008 we started an A Cappella group, The Leading Tones, and we continually strive to support and further the music community in and around campus. The Eta Phi chapter at Penn State is now looking for rushes, so if you're interested in promoting music in the community, having a tight group of friends who share your passion, and having fun, please come to one or more of our rush events to meet the sisters! Angeline Tuesday, January 27, 2009 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon, women: This is a reminder that those of you who wish to buy Chanticleer tickets at the group rate of $12.45 should bring your checks/checkbooks/cash with you tomorrow to rehearsal. We're now getting down to the wire in terms of ordering these, and I know that Ariana would like to be done with this particular money collection process! Thanks! Cordially, Dr. Drafall Saturday, January 24, 2009 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Hi everyone, Sorry I had to send this out to all of you, but several people came to me after rehearsal on Wednesday, volunteering to help. I plan on doing the folders tomorrow (Sunday) from 3-5, and hopefully with more people there it'll go faster. Please email me back with your name, email address, and whether or not you are just helping for this semester or if you're training for the long term. Amanda Monday, January 12, 2009 Email from Presient Amy Gilbert Hello Ladies and Welcome Back! I hope you all enjoyed your break and had fun over the holidays. Now that classes have started and everyone is getting ready for another semester, I wanted to remind everyone that we do have rehearsal today and Wednesday, so I look forward to seeing your lovely faces! For those of you who will not be joining us this semester or may have graduated and would like to be removed from the list serve, please email me and I will take care of it. I think thats all for now, so see you later today! Amy Wednesday, December 10, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Hello women, it's me again, for one last time Just in case some of you aren't members of the Oriana Singers facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/topic.php?topic=6706&post=24735&uid=2200025798#/group.php?gid=2200025798 Please give input on the Discantus matter. Wednesday, December 10, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Hey everyone, I've started a discussion on our facebook group about Discantus with a few options. Please add your input by responding, or just talk to me at the party this evening. Tuesday, December 9, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Dr. Drafall I volunteer to lead Discantus next semester if none of the other women have any objections. I just finished choral lab with Dr. Leach, and I'll be taking 466 with Dennis Glocke next semester, and this will help me become a better all around conductor. Amanda Weber Tuesday, December 9, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, again: I've been waiting to discuss this with you until things were a little more clear, but it appears that Discantus will NOT have a choral conducting intern for the spring 09 semester. There are only two candidates, and the choral faculty decided that they should be assigned to Sine Nomine (University Choir) and Cantante (Women's Chorale). Why? Because there are strong enough musicians within Oriana that they could do Discantus on their own if they decided to do so. Therefore, there are three options for Discantus next semester: 1. Disband the choir completely. 2. Ask one Oriana member to volunteer to organize/rehearse/conduct it. 3. Organize it "by committee" with all members having input. I believe that this decision needs to be made by the present membership. So, I'd appreciate it if the present members would discuss this among yourselves and come to some conclusion how you would like to proceed. Amanda, since I believe that you are the "senior" member, I'd also appreciate it if you would coordinate this discussion? You can talk to each other via email...and I'm sure you can find a few moments to discuss it tomorrow as well. I will need to know what you want to do as we begin the second semester. Thanks! Cordially, Dr. Drafall Tuesday, December 9, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, Oriana: If you have terrible allergies to dogs or fresh pine, you might want to bring your medication with you Wednesday! By the way, the dog will NOT be out with us... If you're driving, please park on the same side of the street as the house. See you then! Dr. Drafall Monday, December 8, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, women: This is just a reminder that we WILL meet this afternoon. Those that are not returning next semester need to turn in their music....Boyoung Kong is going to conduct you through Laudate Pueri (as a conducting project), and we'll make plans for our final soiree at the Drafall abode on Wednesday! We should be done by 5:30! Cordially, Dr. Drafall Friday, December 5, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Greetings, Choir Members: Here is an announcement about an upcoming Kings' Singers performance in Anneville. Given the time of year, I doubt whether we could get a group rate for this, but I thought there would be some individuals who may want to attend. The ticket ordering information is below. Cordially, Dr. Drafall be performing in Annville on Saturday December 13, 2008 at 7:30PM. If you would please share this information with your students and fellow faculty members, I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks very much for your time and have a wonderful holiday!!! Todd Narehood Wednesday, December 3, 2008 Email from President Amy Gilbert Good morning ladies! Just a reminder about today's rehearsal: We will be meeting at our regular time at Eisenhower Auditorium. To get to our practice space, enter through the front doors of the building and look for the stairs right there in the lobby. Take them to the very top balcony (not the grand tier). Also, remember we will be stage left! If anyone needs help finding us, my phone number is (***) ***-****. Try to leave a little extra time to get there so we can get started on time! Thanks girls, and see you there! Amy Thursday, November 20, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon, Concert Choir and Oriana Singers members: Attached please find a flyer listing the dates, times and requirements for Spring 2009 choir auditions. Please print this out and post it in your dormitories (if that applies to you) and tell your friends to audition! Thanks so much! Cordially, Dr. Drafall Spring 2009 Audition Poster Thursday, November 20, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon, women: During the week after Thanksgiving, the Arts Conservatory is presenting its "Central Pennsylvania Nutcracker" at Eisenhower Auditorium. It's quite good, a full-length "Nutcracker" with a Centre Co. historical theme, and a live professional orchestra. There is a piece in the ballet that calls for a simple 2-part treble chorus singing "ah" - not very long - at the conclusion of Act I. Evidently, there was a chorus already in place for this, but a last-minute scheduling snafu has negated their appearance. The producers are now desperately in need of finding some singers. The rehearsals are in Eisenhower on Monday and Tuesday evenings, December 1 and 2 (the choral section would be at around 7:45 - 8:15), with performances on Wednesday and Thursday, December 3 and 4 (starting at 7 pm, so singing around the same time as the rehearsals). Singers will be in the upper balcony, so there's no dress code. I'm also told that it may not be necessary for everyone to attend both rehearsals, but you should probably be at both performances. And, you'd get to see the Nutcracker for free! If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Alex Hill of the Arts Conservatory of Central PA AS SOON AS POSSIBLE at frontdesk@artsconservatories.com. Repeat - contact Alex Hill - do not contact me. He'll then be in touch with you to work out how to pick up the music etc. It sounds like fun - and not very time-consuming! In the meantime, have a wonderful break and a happy and safe Thanksgiving! Cordially, Dr. Drafall Thursday, November 13, 2008 Email from Laura Muscelli Hi Oriana Ladies! I just wanted to send a reminder out that this weekend is Opera Scenes! The program consists of all American Opera scenes- everything is in English, so have no fear new-opera-goers! We are performing scenes from Little Women, The Crucible, Postcards from Morocco, The Old Maid and the Thief, and The Ballad of Baby Doe, which are condensed into a program that is just over an hour long. So, if you're looking for something fun, musical, inexpensive and something a little different to do with your friends this weekend, come out and see Penn State's Opera Company! Friday & Saturday- 8pm Esber Recital Hall Student tickets - $2! Hope to see you there! Have a fabulous weekend!! :) Laura Wednesday, November 12, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, women: As we move forward toward the end of the semester, I need to know whether we have any Oriana members who are also participating in other ensembles performing on Mosaic. Dr. Drafall Wednesday, October 15, 2008 Email from Vice President Jessica Angeline Hey Ladies, Hopefully you will all try on your dresses ASAP and find that they fit reasonably well. By "tack" I mean just put one stitch in and out at the same place a couple times. That way if the tape starts to give you have a little back-up. Any questions feel free to send them my way and I will try my best to answer them! Otherwise get those dresses pretty!!! Jessica C. Angeline Wednesday, October 9, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Hi again: ...just re-read the message I sent yesterday, and wanted to clarify that Niska Banja pianists should also sign up on the solo audition schedule based on their availability... There were enough of you that we're going to have an audition. And, while we're at it, we're going to audition the Cantate Domino solo (Lang) AND the solo in Tenzi AND the duets in Niska Banja. Sopranos, learn the Cantate Domine solo. Altos, learn the lower part in Niska Banja. Then, I'll just assign the other solos based on that repertoire. There are times posted on my bulletin board on Tuesday morning and Friday/morning/afternoon of next week. We'll see how those fill up and then decide whether we need to add any more times. Please note that I'm also hearing Concert Choir solo auditions at that time... Dr. Drafall Monday, October 6, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, all: On Friday October 10 at 8:00p.m. in Esber Recital Hall, the renowned Smith College Glee Club (Northampton, PA) will share the stage with the Penn State Glee Club in the first of two collaborations this year. Smith College Glee Club were founded in 1885 and have toured extensively throughout the United States. They will perform Marian Antiphons and Motets, Psalms and Spirituals by composers including Gustav Holst, Ernani Aguiar and Clifton J. Noble Jr.. The Penn State Glee Club will perform works by Veljo Tormis, David Brunner, Z. Randall Stroope and Franz Biebl. The concert will also include performances by the Hi-Lo's and Groove, from Smith College. Admission is free. Saturday, October 4, 2008 Email from President Amy Gilbert Happy Football Saturday everyone! This is just a reminder email about tonight's Choral Collage, in case anyone has any questions. We will be meeting this evening at 7:15 to warm up in Music I, Room 117. Please remember to bring only what is necessary...your black folders and maybe a small purse if needed. We will not be able to lock our things in any room while we perform! Be sure that Cantate Domino and Songs of Late Summer (as well as the Alma Mater) are up front and ready to go! Also, as far as dress code reminders: Its time to dress up! I want to see everyone looking nice tonight. Just remember: No cleavage, no shoulders, no midriff, no knees! I know you girls will all look beautiful! Your hair can be done any way you like, just make sure we can see your pretty faces. If you have any questions, you girls can call me at (814)243-0001 because I wont be at my computer all afternoon. I can't wait to sing with you all tonight. We are going to be wonderful! Enjoy your Saturday, ladies! Amy Wednesday, October 1, 2008 Email from Vice President Jess Angeline I am still missing money from a few of you girls and I need it ASAP, that is in class today (Wednesday), last call! Please bring your dress/earring money to class on Monday. Either cash or check is fine BUT I would really prefer checks with the exact amount of $88 made out to Oriana Singers I will most likely NOT have change for you (I will try but don't bet on it) so please trade amongst yourselves or with other friends if you are paying cash Thanks girls! Jessica C. Angeline Tuesday, September 30, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon, all: We're still searching for homestays for the Smith College Glee Club women on Friday, October 10. Thanks to those of you who've signed up already - you're probably "on"! PLEASE let me know if you're willing to take some women on your dorm floor, apartment couch etc.? Thanks so much! Dr. Drafall Monday, September 29, 2008 Email from Vice President Jess Angeline ***A REMINDER AGAIN*** Please bring your dress/earring money to class on Monday. Either cash or check is fine BUT I would really prefer checks with the exact amount of $88 made out to Oriana Singers I will most likely NOT have change for you (I will try but don't bet on it) so please trade amongst yourselves or with other friends if you are paying cash Thanks girls! Jessica C. Angeline Sunday, September 28, 2008 Email from Vice President Jess Angeline Please bring your dress/earring money to class on Monday. Either cash or check is fine BUT I would really prefer checks with the exact amount of $88 made out to Oriana Singers I will most likely NOT have change for you (I will try but don't bet on it) so please trade amongst yourselves or with other friends if you are paying cash Thanks girls! Jessica C. Angeline Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Email from President Amy Gilbert Hello my lovely Oriana ladies! Just a couple of reminders about retreat: Ladies with vehicles: Please be at the Music Building parking lot on Sunday at 12:30. We will need to coordinate rides for all of the other girls. Right now, we have about 15 cars, so we should be okay with rides as long as each car can hold about 5 people. For those of you who need a ride, there will be cars waiting at the Music Building parking lot for you at 12:45. We'll cram everyone in and get you all to the Park Forest United Methodist Church in time to start at 1:00. Like I mentioned before, Retreat is Sunday at 1:00 at Park Forest UM Church, and it is a fun time for all of us to get to know one another a little better as well as a chance to get to know our music a little better. Its a really fun time, so I look forward to seeing you all there! Aside from singing, we will be doing some bonding over delicious food. I have ordered us Subway subs, turkey, ham, veggie, roast beef, and turkey/ham mix. The subs will have lettuce tomato and cheese on them and will be on wheat bread. It was easier to order them in bulk this way. If anyone has allergies to these foods, please let me know and I can see what I can do. In addition, you girls are responsible for the following items: Sop 1: Sweet snacks Sop 2: Salty or Healthy snacks Alto 1: Drinks Alto 2: Paper products. If all of the paper products are covered, feel free to bring another type of snack, but check with Allie Conn first to see what is still needed in the paper area first! So I think that is is for the retreat business. See you all tomorrow at practice and if you have any questions, just email me or ask me tomorrow! Amy p.s. Officer meeting tomorrow at 4 in the Music Building Lobby. Be there! Friday, September 18, 2008 Email from Vice President Jessica Angeline 1. The Oriana Singers facebook group is now set to open so just search for it and join! Its a great way to connect/find people you've met at rehearsal outside of class! 2. I NEED $88 for your dress and earrings. This can be either a check (made out to Oriana Singers) or cash. 2b. If you DO NOT have your ears pierced let me know ASAP. Thanks girls! Have a great weekend! Jessica C. Angeline Wednesday, September 3, 2008 Email from Allie Conn Hey girls! So I know that some of you may have been confused when Amy and I were screaming while everyone was leaving rehearsal today, so I thought I'd shoot an e-mail out to remind everyone. Amy Gilbert and I are members of Penn State's only all-female A Cappella group - Savoir Faire. It is SO much fun and we would LOVE for you to come audition! We are looking for ALL voice parts so come out and give it a shot! Tomorrow night is the last night of auditions - anytime between 5:30-7:30 pm in 209 Thomas so come out and audition! All you need to prepare is a short song (verse/chorus) to sing for us at the audition. Hope to see you there! and YAY FOR ORIANA STARTING AGAIN! - Allie Conn PS - please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions! Tuesday, September 2, 2008 Email from President Amy Gilber Good morning ladies! First, I would like to say welcome back to the returning Oriana Singers members, and let you know how excited I am to get things started this year. Secondly, for those of you who have either graduated or cannot participate in OS this year and have received this email, I apologize. We will be updating the list serve as soon as possible. Thirdly, Welcome to Oriana new recruits! It is a pleasure to have you with us. All of that being said, I just wanted to say how excited I am to be this year's president. We are going to have a great semester, and I am sure Dr. Drafall has amazing things planned for us. Before Wednesday's rehearsal, I have one little bit of administrative stuff. I have a great set of officers so far, but this semester we do have some open positions. They are as follows: Soprano 2 section leader Alto 1 section leader Historian Assistant Librarian Social Chair If anyone is interested in any of the positions listed above, just shoot me an email at alg980@psu.edu. If you have any questions about what each position is, just ask me and I will try to help you as best I can. Thanks so much for your help ladies! I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday to kick of the year! Amy Friday, August 29, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, LAST year's women of Oriana! Please excuse me for sending this to some of you who are no longer members, but we're not quite at the point yet where we have an accurate email list for the current year. Here is an invitation from Nicki Gutowski (a former OS member!) to come and work the all-choir concession stand at the football game this Saturday. This really is a fun thing to do and you still get to see the game! The money that you make goes into your "personal account" within the Oriana Singers treasury and can be used for any choir-related things like cds or dresses. And, I understand that it's a really good time!!!! Happy Weekend! Dr. Drafall Dear Ladies and Gents of the Penn State Choirs, I hope this email finds you all having a fabulous semester! As I'm sure you are all aware, the first football game is this Saturday 12pm and we are in need of a few more workers for the stand. This is a great way to fundraise for trips or make some extra cash for choir-related things. (who doesn't need that?) The stand requires that there are at least seven people working the stand. Workers would be required to arrive at Gate E at 9am where I will give you your tickets to get into the stadium. If you would like to help out and make some money, please sign the paper outside room 110 or email me! Thank you, Nicki Gutowski Tuesday, August 19, 2008 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon, Oriana Singers! Well, my sabbatical is over - and your summer is almost over - and it IS time for us all to start back to school... I'm sure that you are, as I am, regretting the end of summer but looking forward to all that the fall brings here in Happy Valley!! I'm writing this afternoon to let you know that: 1. Any of you who were members in Spring 08 are invited to return to Oriana Singers for the 08-09 school year! Since you did not have to undergo a re-audition last spring, your previous membership serves as your successful audition for this year! 2. Happy Graduation to all those who have left Penn State and are now off to new and grand adventures :) We won't expect you back in Room 110.... Unfortunately, there are probably a few others of you as well who are unable to return because of schedule conflicts. :( Please please please email me (led5@psu.edu) to let me know if you are NOT returning to Oriana? That way, I can start the audition process next week with a better idea of how many women we'll need to add to our merry gang. 3. Oriana will NOT meet during the first week of school - I'll be doing auditions. So, our first rehearsal will occur on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3 at 4:40 in Room 110. Officers, you might want to get together for a planning meeting during one of those empty rehearsal times? I just can't wait to see you all again - and meet all those whom I've not yet met! In the meantime, please make sure you tell all your friends old and new who are interested in choral music to come audition with us. The audition schedule is posted throughout the School of Music and also on the School of Music website. ...till then! Allie Monday, April 21, 2008 Email from member Rachel Guth Hey ladies, I know a lot of girls are still uneasy about the Beethoven parts. Please, instead of letting our performance suffer, sacrifice a little extra time Wednesday and come in for a rehearsal. We'll go over parts and text at a slower tempo than performance speed. Allie Sunday, April 20, 2008 Email from Director Anthony Leach Good Morning All! As you can well imagine, I did not sleep last night once Amy called at midnight to inform me of where the bus was and the conditions that were surrounding your return to State College. I'll frame my reflection by using the following quote: "It Was the Best of Times, It Was the Worst of Times" The plan for our travel to the Pullo Auditorium at PSU York began over a year ago. I agreed to do this knowing that it was an important step towards establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between ensembles in the School of Music and the presenting organization in the Pullo Auditorium. Mission accomplished! Wonderful hospitality, wonderful collaboration with the York County Youth and High School Honor Choirs and of course a stunning performance space. Who knew as the musical offering emerged over those two hours that on finishing the concert, getting back on the bus, sharing our parting words and moving forward that you would end up on the side of the road in the wrong direction from State College on a bus that was not up to par.... I'm sure that after a little eye-rolling, muttered words under the breath, maybe a few panic phone calls to parents/friends/roommates and general anxiety that many of you settled in for a quick nap while waiting for the rescue coach to arrive. Thank you Amy for contacting me! This was the beginning of my all night vigil as I waited for word of the groups return to State College. At 4:50 a.m., I decided to call Amy and she informed me that the coach had made it's final drop around campus/town and that rides were arranged for those who lived beyond campus. I was ready to come to campus to help transport singers but that was not necessary. One thing I do know is that you were safe, maybe a little scared but safe nevertheless. Thanks to all who helped to take care of each other during a very stressful time. I will follow through the appropriate university channels to share my 'take' on the situation. In the end, all is well. To those who were not able to be present for this weekend's travel event, I hope that your plans emerged move positively. One knows that all plans are subject to change but one can only hope that equipment failure and wrong travel directions would occur during the daylight rather than midnight. We'll finish this discussion on tomorrow! Beethoven is in our collective face. TL Friday, April 18, 2008 Email from Secretary Amy Gilbert Hello girls! Just an extra reminder for those of you who are traveling with us tomorrow. Please check Dr. Leach's email attachment from earlier this week to be sure that you have filled out an emergency contact form. If you are not on that list, or have not filled out a contact sheet within the past week, have no fear, I will have extras on the bus! See you tomorrow! For those of you not going with us tomorrow, please email me your name and reason why you will not be there. This will go into your attendance for the semester. Thank you so much for your help ladies! Amy Gilbert Friday, April 18, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Good evening Ladies, Just a friendly little reminder to remember your music tomorrow and to please not leave it in York. See you tomorrow at noon :) Amanda Wednesday, April 16, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Hey girls! Jess put together a facebook event for our concert. Please join it and invite your friends.. this really worked for the fall! http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=26765640580 Tuesday, March 25, 2008 Email from Presdient Allison Gabriel Hi ladies, I thought some of you may be interested in this opportunity for next year! We are still accepting applications for the HIV/AIDS Risk Reduction Advisory Council. Apply online at www.dontignoreit.com today!! All applications are due by Friday, March 28th. Time commitments range from 2-5 hours per week depending on the projects occurring. HealthWorks application deadline approaching UNIVERSITY PARK, PA –March 19, 2007 – HealthWorks, a peer health outreach program and The HIV/AIDS Risk Reduction Advisory Council (HARRAC), a grassroots awareness program run through University Health Services, are recruiting students this spring to serve in the 2008-2009 academic year. Some positions for HARRAC can begin this semester. The deadline for both programs is March 28th. HealthWorks students will address issues identified by Healthy Penn State 2010, a series of behavior-oriented objectives based on data collected on Penn State student health. Among these are stress, colds and flu, high risk drinking, tobacco, safer sex, and nutrition. The HIV/AIDS Risk Reduction Advisory Council envisions a knowledgeable Penn State community that engages in healthy behaviors which will eliminate the transmission of HIV/AIDS. Students will coordinate and participate in programming run through HARRAC such as Access to Protection, Safer Sex Parties, and Influential Peers. Students who volunteer to be peer leaders in both programs will spend about 2-4 hours a week to accomplish projects and coordinate with other members. Applicants can be of any academic major. For more information or to apply to be a HealthWorks or HARRAC member, please visit the Health Promotion and Wellness volunteer web page at http://www.sa.psu.edu/uhs/volunteer/learnopp.cfm. Saturday, March 22, 2008 Email from Vice President Jessica Angeline Hey Ladies, So here is the deal. Friday, March 21, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Hey ladies, We really need a theme/poster design by this Sunday evening so we can get posters made and I can have them to give out on Wednesday in rehearsal. Please send me all designs electronically ASAP!! Also, send me your senior bios! Thanks! Allie Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Email from vice President Jessica Angeline Just an added note, the dresses will usually be a little big round the waist. Where you should be looking for a good fit is about your bust area. Also all dresses will have to be hemmed (more on how to get this done soon) so if they are too long don't worry about it. Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Email from vice President Jessica Angeline Sorry I was not/will not be in rehersal today, but my sinuses have decided to revolt against me today. I just wanted to send a message out to see if anyone had any major issues with her dress. If so, please email me ASAP so we can take of it. Monday, March 3, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Hi Ladies! Great rehearsal today! As notice for those who are interested - solo auditions for "All That You Hold" will be held this coming Wednesday in rehearsal - the procedure will be just like the one that happened today. Please come prepared to sing the opening stanza. Good luck - see you then! Allie Monday, March 3, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Hi Girls! Just a reminder - there is rehearsal today but no retreat/dinner after rehearsal. Also, seniors please send me your bios! I've only received 2 (including my own.. woof). Enjoy the beautiful weather! Allie Monday, March 3, 2008 Email from Vice President Jessica Angeline Hello Girls! Lovely day today, right? Too bad we have classes. Anywho, just wanted to let everyone know I ordered dresses and earrings today so you will probably get them after break at which point I will email you all about getting them altered if need be. In other news, if you are a new member this year and haven't joined the Oriana facebook group and/or friended me, I encourage you to do so! Not only does it help the other officers and I put faces to names (I know, I know we are a sorry bunch) but its a way to get to know the other girls in the choir. When I first joined Oriana last year I never would have guessed I would find so many cool girls to bond with so take advantage of the situation! See you all later today! Monday, March 3, 2008 Email from former Oriana member Liz Francis Hi girls! My friend and former Oriana member Liz Francis asked me if I would be willing to sing at two engagements she is involved with. I'm busy both days, so I'm passing the word along in case any of you are looking for singing opportunities. If you are interested, her email is ebf111@gmail.com Information about the events is below. Thanks! :) Alanna Ropchock 1.) My organization, GlobeMed, is hosting a conference from March 28-29th and we were wondering if you would be interested in singing our conference theme song with myself and another possible singer. The theme song is "Stand Up for Love," a Destany's Child song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3QNZWgO2EM We are very tight on funds so we wouldn't be able to provide any compensation for the performance or pay for any of the performers entry to the event if they wanted to have dinner. BUT we would LOVE to highlight your AMAZING voice in our conference's finale. I have attached an overview of the conference for you to review. There is a max capacity of 70 @ this event. 2.) I recently received an invite to perform @ Relay for Life's Introductory Ceremony. I was thinking, if all of our team members wanted to, we could perform "Stand Up for Love" at this event too. The event is scheduled for April 25th - 26th. Please let me know your thoughts and your availabilities. Thanks for considering this! I look forward to hearing from you soon! ~Liz Thursday, February 28, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Speaking of checking your music. For "Come Ready and See Me" DOUBLE CHECK YOUR NUMBER! Then triple check it. If it does not match the numbers on the rest of your music we need to switch it. Some of the numbers that I have that I know belong to people might be people who were absent yesterday. We will take care of this on Monday. Amanda Thursday, February 28, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Hi Ladies, Ha! I finally sent the email. You all owe me a dollar. Just kidding, but really... FOR SENIORS: Please send me the following information asap for our spring concert bios! -Name (obviously) -Hometown -Year (should be senior, unless you're a super smart junior graduating early) -Major/Minor -# of semesters in Oriana -# of semesters in Discantus (if applicable) -Officer Positions held -Plans after graduation (grad school, job, a selfless plea for someone in the audience to hire you, etc.) FOR EVERYONE ELSE! Please look through the music and come up with some potential concert titles from the lyrics/poster designs if you are crafty :) We had an awesome one in the fall and I'd love to have another great color flyer for our concert. Can you tell from this email I'm sleep-deprived? Maybe? Meh. Have a good weekend. :) Allie Tuesday, February 26, 2008 Email from Dawn Gannon Hey Girls!!! I am currently writing a profile on Dr. Leach and I have a few questions for all of you!!! If you have the time please shoot me back an answer...the more the better!!! 1. Is this the first time you have worked with Dr. Leach? 2. If so, what was your previous experience and how do you think it affects your current experience? 3. If this is not the first time you've worked with him, do you enjoy working with Dr. Leach? Why/Why not? 4. Do you think Oriana has changed from last semester to this semester? How so? Thanks a bunch girls!!! And look out for more e-mails from me...I may need to ask more questions!!! THANKS!!! -Dawn Thursday, February 28, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Speaking of checking your music. For "Come Ready and See Me" DOUBLE CHECK YOUR NUMBER! Then triple check it. :) Allie Tuesday, Februrary 17, 2008 Email from Vice President Jessica C. Angeline A REMINDER TO ALL NEW MEMBERS I NEED $88 FROM ANYONE WHO NEEDS AN ORIANA DRESS. THIS CAN BE PAID FOR EITHER IN CASH OR A CHECK MADE OUT TO ORIANA SINGERS PLEASE BRING THIS IN TOMORROW, THAT IS MONDAY FEBRUARY 17 tHaNkS gIrLs! Jessica C. Angeline Friday, February 13, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel No rehearsal today! Stay warm! Friday, February 1, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Call tonight is 7:30 to Room 110! Wear whatever you like... just make sure it's Oriana appropriate (no cleavage, no shoulders, no knees). Also, please pull your hair away from your face and wear make-up! Thursday, January 31, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Ladies, I have not gotten any emails back for volunteers at all. We only need one or two people. You don't have to dress too fancy, just not jeans and a t-shirt. Nice jeans and a nice shirt will do. It's really easy. All you have to do is show up, take money, and give tickets. I can't do it because I need to be at a different performance at the same time. Amanda Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Email from Librarian Amanda Weber Good evening ladies, Two very important items regarding this weekend's performance(s). Chad Reed, the president of ACDA, needs a few more people to volunteer this Saturday night selling tickets, water, and ushering people into the Spiritual Center. You would need to be there by 7 or 7:30 PM. If you are able to lend a hand please let me know so that I can get your name passed on. I was also told to let you know that those who volunteer are volunteering for working with/ hanging out with Matt Travis, who is also volunteering at that time. Hopefully Essence of Joy members will be able to do the same for us on Friday night. Which brings me to my second topic. Everyone should be at the performance on Friday night, which means (theoretically) that all of the music will be in one place again. Directly after we perform please bring your music back to room 110 and make two piles (one for Gilead and the other for Freedom) so that I can get everything in order and you all can have your own special number with which I can keep track of you in my plan to eventually take over the world. (I hope I didn't just type that out loud.) PLEASE make sure you have your music Friday night. REPLY TO THIS EMAIL IF YOU CAN VOLUNTEER THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!!! Have a wonderful Thursday and I'll see you Friday. Amanda Wednesday, January 30, 2008 Email from Director Anthony Leach All choirs for Friday night will wear similar outfits as were worn at the Fall Choral Collage Concert. That means dresses/skirts rather than pant suits. We will not use the Oriana dress at all so whatever they choose from their personal wardrobe will be appropriate. Thanks for inquiring. TL Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Email from Vice President Jessica C. Angeline OLD MEMBERS; Yea I called as old, we are ancient I tell ya! ; p Just wanted to put out there that if you need new earrings or something outfit related I will bring some sort of sheet in tomorrow where you all can write down that info for me so I can take care of it the same time I take care of the new girls dresses. ; ) Jessica C. Angeline Tuesday, January 22, 2008 Email from Vice President Jessica C. Angeline NEW MEMBERS; Hey Girls and Welcome! This is your friendly neighborhood VP and it is that time of year again for dress fittings! This Wednesday I will be fitting you for one of our beautiful Oriana Dresses (not kidding actually they are really pretty for a choir costume). I usually try to fit girls right after class....so don't run off!...but IF YOU HAVE A CLASS CLOSELY FOLLOWING CHOIR, let me know by email today and perhaps we can meet prior to class instead. A fitting takes like only a couple of minutes per girl. SO, in conclusion, if you are new please send me an email TODAY letting me know your name and whether or not you'll be available for fitting after Wednesday's class. THANKS SO MUCH GIRLS CAN'T WAIT TO MEET YOU ALL! Jessica C. Angeline Monday, January 14, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Hi ladies (and Dr. Leach)! WELCOME BACK! I'm very excited to see all of you on Wednesday :) A few things: 1) We'll have new girls Wednesday of next week - Jess, we'll have to get them fitted ASAP and Amy, we'll have to get them flowers. Dr. Leach should have an updated roster by the end of the week. 2) Go introduce yourselves to Dr. Leach! 3) Section Leaders - please get a hold of your section and let's get dues in quickly. $10.00 a person again this semester. 4) We have two new officers this semester! Mary Katerman will be our new Treasurer and Shelby Smith will be our new Webmistress. That's all for now - see you Wednesday! Allie Sunday, January 13, 2008 Email from President Allison Gabriel Hi ladies and Dr. Leach, Welcome back to Penn State for the Spring 2008 semester! I hope you all had a fantastic break and are excited to get back to rehearsing! A few important announcements: 1) We will NOT be meeting tomorrow, but we will have rehearsal during our normal time on Wednesday. 2) Shana Lombardi, our treasurer from the past semester, can unfortunately not be in Oriana this semester due to a scheduling conflict. If you are interested in becoming the new Oriana treasurer, please let me know! 3) If you are no longer with Oriana and would like to be removed from this listserv, please send me an email and I will take you off. See you all Wednesday! Allie Sunday, December 9th, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, Oriana! Thanks for your time and patience yesterday...I know that was alot of schlepping up and down. Anyway, I hope you found ways to keep yourselves occupied and happy! Here are a few teensy notes regarding today: 1. Remember that you are responsible for your own vocal warm-up - a little humming and siren-ing during intermission will take care of that - the instrumentalists will be doing the same thing... 2. Please be in your seats in the balcony at 2:00pm. - enter through the stage right doors (and there is an elevator over there.) I'll get up there during intermission... 3. You should probably put your "stuff" in the basement dressing areas, but if it's just small stuff that can be hidden under your chairs in the balcony, it's fine to have it with you. The only problem with that is that you'll have to go back up to get it after the concert. 4. If you've got a pitchpipe (and you are a soprano I or soprano II), it might be a good idea to bring it. The issue will be how to SEE what pitch you're blowing in the dark! But, the more the merrier I think...as long as you are all blowing a G (which is the soprano II pitch). 5. I'm a little concerned about the Soprano I blend. Of course, there are lots of reasons - you can't hear each other very well up there and you've been resat according to height rather than voice type etc. But, all you need to do is LISTEN a little more carefully and sing a little less loud (except in the climactic moments of course). There is NO problem with you being heard, so just ease up a little and put your best ears on? 6. Smile! A large majority of the audience will be sitting in places where they can SEE you. By the way, if you've got people coming, tell them to sit toward the front! 7. You're doing a great job with leaving and moving quietly (I'm still trying to figure out what shoes to wear...) 8. And, how ABOUT that tempo on the Mendelssohn chorus? :) Just watch and GO! 9. Tomorrow's rehearsal? SRTEs and CABARET! See you this afternoon! Dr. Drafall Tuesday, December 4th, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon! Auditions for the Spring 2008 Concert Choir will occur during the last week of classes. If interested, please sign up for an 10-minute audition time on the bulletin board outside of 106 Music Building I. The Concert Choir meets from 12:15 - 1:15 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (Music 103/503). There are openings in both the soprano and alto sections. Available audition times are listed below. If you wish to audition and cannot schedule during the hours listed, please email me at led5@psu.edu with your availability. Wednesday, December 12 10:00 - 11:30 1:30 - 2:30 3:30 - 4:30 Thursday, December 13 9:30 - 12:30 2:30 - 4:00 Please be vocally prepared prior to your audition. We will do a range test and assess your tonal memory/sightsinging ability. We would also like to hear a one-minute segment of a vocal solo of your choice (art song or aria preferred). You will sing this unaccompanied. Best wishes for the remainder of the semester! Dr. Drafall Monday, December 3rd, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, all: ONe slight correction to Allie's email... Wenny will NOT be present on Monday so, if you need something played, you'll have to find your own accompanist. There are several women in the choir that play - ask on Wednesday's rehearsal (while we're at Eisenhower). Me Monday, December 3rd, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi ladies, Our Winter-end-of-the-year-fun-etc. Cabaret will be held next Monday, December 10 during rehearsal time! This is a time to eat (a lot) and perform! If you would like to perform, please email me ASAP (by the end of the week) so we can have a run of show set up before our meeting on Monday. If you need Wenny to play music for you, please try to bring that into rehearsal on Wednesday so she has time to prepare! You can also have someone else come in and play music for you. For food, here's the breakdown of what sections will bring what - section leaders please coordinate so we don't have a million of the same thing! S1: Drinks S2: Healthier snacks (i.e., fruit, veggies, sun chips, healthier junk food - haha) A1: Salty Snacks A2: Sweet Snacks/Deserts See you all Wednesday at Eisenhower Auditorium! Allie Sunday, December 2nd, 2007 Email from Vice President Jessica Angeline Hey girls! Well using all of the emails you sent me as a gauge to create an orderform I have done so an attached said form to this email as a word document. I have to admit I was a little underwhelmed by the number of emails I received comparing them with the number of hands that were raised in class for interest in different Orianawear pieces. One main consequence of the less than anticipated emails is that I WILL NOT BE OFFERING SWEATSHIRTS as I didn't receive the minimum number of requests so that even if I were to buy one to make the minimum the sweatshirt would have cost $36, well above my estimate to you all. Nevertheless, if you didn't send an email to me but would still like to purchase some pieces do print out and fill out the form attached and bring it in. Who knows, if enough girls jump in late I may be able to give all a retrospective discount depending on how many forms I collect! Jessica C. Angeline Thursday, November 15th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Marissa asked me who from Oriana worked the Wisconsin Game, and I for the life of me cannot remember. If whoever it was could email me (ajw5005@psu.edu) or Marissa (mfm5001@psu.edu) it would be GREATLY appreciated. Someone lost the sign up sheet. Amanda Saxy -_^ -- Allison S. Gabriel Thursday, November 8th, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Hi women: We WILL meet next Monday (November 12) but NOT Wednesday, November 14.... ...and I think I've got a formal picture scheduled for Monday, December 3rd...I've got to confirm with the photographer but I think we'll be good to go on that date. Have a great weekend! Go to the Glee Club Concert on Saturday, November 10 at 8:00pm in Esber Recital Hall... AND....come to hear the Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble do their big blow-out concert together on Sunday, November 11 at 3:00pm in the PSC!!!!! Dr. Drafall Sunday, November 4th, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Good morning, women of Oriana! Happy Concert Day to you! Hopefully by now you've hemmed your dress, figured out how you're going to wear your hair, and generally prepared to froo-froo yourselves! I'm looking forward to a simply lovely concert this afternoon! Things to hit HARD at 1:00pm: middle of Gloria again... bottom of second to the last page of Tota pulchra es middle of Desde el fondo Yo le canto with claves! Regarding the rest of the semester: We ARE going to be singing in the "School of Music Mosaic" on Sunday, December 9. We will be repeating Tota Pulchra Es (sung from the balcony). Also, we will be joining the Concert Choir and Glee Club to perform the final movement from Mendelssohn's "Elijah" with the Philharmonic Orchestra. So, there's only one new piece to learn. (We'll talk about this HUGE concert later on...let's just take one thing at a time!) THIS WEEK: We WILL rehearse tomorrow (Monday). The agenda is to turn in concert music, talk about our successful concert, and read the Elijah chorus. There will be NO REHEARSAL this Wednesday (November 7)! Enjoy some well-deserved time off! In the meantime, see you this afternoon - I can't wait! Dr. Drafall p.s. Good luck, Discantus! Saturday, November 3rd, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi ladies, Tomorrow is the big day! I am so incredibly proud of all of you and know we are going to be absolutely phenomenal. Some reminders: -Discantus will begin practicing at 12:30 and Oriana Singers will begin practicing at 1:00 on the dot. Please be on time! -SLIGHT CHANGE IN THE PROGRAM ORDER! Everything is the same except Tollite Hostias is now before Tota Pulchra Es -Come dressed! Gown, earrings, black stockings, black shoes, and lots of make-up and heinous red lipstick. Please do not wear any additional jewelry, especially necklaces. If you have a good luck necklace, consider wrapping it around your ankle; that seems to be the back-up move most girls end up doing. -Pay for your CD! I need all money before tomorrow's concert. $12 cash or check made out to Oriana Singers -TELL YOUR FRIENDS! You have no idea how great it is to have people besides your family there supporting you. Plus, many people have never been to something like this and it's completely eye opening. Be focused and we'll be great :) Remember to change your clocks tonight!! Love you all. Allie Thursday, November 1st, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel This week is the last home game of the season, and therefore the last opportunity for you to work at the concession stand!! Kick off is at noon this week, so meet at the employee entrance to Beaver Stadium to get your tickets. There will be a sign-up sheet tomorrow on the choir board. Contact Chris at 814 883 5599 or Marisa at 570 660 0792 with any questions. We are always looking for help, you'll nake approx. $100 a person. Thanks, hope to see you there. Sunday, October 28th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi girls, I missed seeing all of your gorgeous faces yesterday! This is a reminder to please send me your senior bios if you are leaving Penn State! So far I only have 1 bio... is this right?!! Also, invite your friends to the Oriana Singers Fall Concert event on Facebook! I did this and had a lot of my friends messaged me saying how glad they were that I invited them because otherwise they wouldn't have known. It's posted in my Facebook profile in case you are having trouble finding it. See you all tomorrow! Allie Sunday, October 28th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi girls, I hope you all had a great weekend. This message is for graduating seniors only! If you are graduating in December, going abroad, not rejoining Oriana, etc., please send me your bio by Wednesday afternoon before rehearsal! We want you to be recognized, so please take the time to reply to this email now :) Name: Major(s): Semesters in Oriana: Officer Positions Held: Plans after Graduation: Thanks! See you all on Wednesday and make sure you look over your music before then! Allie Saturday, October 27th, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon, women: This afternoon, I was able to change our dress rehearsal time to FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2 - between 4:40 and 6:00pm. I realize that some of you will not be able to attend, but I do believe that this is a better course of action than trying to wrangle you all here against your will on Saturday, November 3! So, mark your calendars - and if you raised your hand yesterday saying that you are UNABLE to attend that day, please let your section leader know aSAP! Thanks! Dr. Drafall Thursday, October 25th, 2007 Email from Vice President Jessica Angeline Hey Ladies, So here is the deal. Jessica C. Angeline Wednesday, October 24th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Please forward to your choirs, or announce in rehearsal. It's time for the concession stand again! If you don't have tickets, come help us out. Meet outside the employee entrance at 5 pm to get your tickets. We're making about $100 a game, which is money if your pocket if you work. Contact Chris at 814 883 5599 or Marisa at 570 660 0792 with questions. It's going to be a lot of fun! Allison S. Gabriel Sunday, October 23rd, 2007 Email from Vice President Jess Angeline Hello Ladies! Just reminder to all girls who ordered dresses if you all can meet me outside room 110 before class around 4:15, then as soon as the other choir clears out I can start handing out dresses to you all. Whatever we don't get handed out OR if you cannot get there early please return with me to 110 after rehersal in Esber to get your dress. Please try on your dresses ASAP, before or shortly after practice while still in the music building would be best; then if there is any size issue we can do some switching or send them back in time for the concert. PLEASE TRY TO COME EARLY GIRLS! Jessica C. Angeline Sunday, October 21st, 2007 Email from Secretary Amy Gilbert Hello Again! While I'm in the swing of sending Oriana emails, I just figured I would send out a reminder to those students who have missed or are going to miss class, the retreat, or a concert. Please see your section leader and fill out either a yellow or green slip and have those turned in as soon as possible! Thanks girls! To the section leaders: If you have any slips that have already been turned in, feel free to pass them on to me so that I can get them sorted and everything. Thanks so much ladies! See you tomorrow! Much love, Amy Saturday, October 20th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi girls, Jess came up with a really cool theme/posters for the concert - they're attached.. let me know what you think! The only other idea for a theme that I had was "With Affection and Joy." Respond to the whole listserv with your thoughts :) Allie Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel >From Marisa from Concert Choir! First, I would like to say thank you to the members of Oriana and Glee Club who helped with the concession stand this week! Everything went really smoothly and we had a great time. There is another game this weekend and we need more people to help! Kickoff is 3:30, so meet outside the employee entrance at 12:30 to get your tickets. As I have said before, it's great way to fundraise and be involved in your choir and PSU football. We have been making about $100 per person a game. For approx. 8 hours of work, that's more than most jobs pay! Plus, it's fun! All money goes into your personal choir account. There will be a sign-up sheet on the board outside 110 tomorrow. Please remember that if we don't have enough people (7 at the least) Penn State choirs as a whole owe the university about $5,000, which would mean that you're losing money instead of making it! So sign up! Contact Chris at clb5000@psu.edu or Marisa at mfm5001@psu.edu with questions. Thanks! Monday, October 8th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi ladies! I'm sorry I had to run out of rehearsal today and sadly will be doing the same on Wednesday - I hate leaving you all in the middle of practicing! Anywho, to clarify, the Collegian was wrong today.. voting is going all through this Friday at 4:00pm. Please help spread the word about voting, invite your Facebook friends to the facebook group, email listservs, etc. ;) Every single vote will count - already over 1,000 votes have been cast! For those who need the website again, it's homecoming.psu.edu Also, some of you were talking about how you didn't know who to vote for Homecoming King - for those who haven't voted, I would highly recommend Chris Talley to all of you. He's an amazing individual, but of course vote for whoever you want! Love you all - I'm so happy I can share this with all of you! Allie PS - Did you know our own Megan Hershey is singing the National Anthem at the King/Queen Coronation and Pep Rally Friday night?! Sunday, October 7th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi girls, Voting for the 2007 Homecoming King and Queen begins tomorrow morning at 8:00am! Here is information about how to vote below, and I would love it if you all could help out and spread word to friends, relatives at PSU (haha), and other organizations you are with! I would love votes from everyone, but most importantly we want to try and get as many people voting as possible! Love all of you girls immensely :o) Today was a fabulous retreat and I hope you all got to know each other better! xoxo Allie ----- Voting for the 2007 Homecoming King and Queen will begin Monday, October 8th at 8:00am and will continue through 4:00pm on Friday, October 12. To vote, go to homecoming.psu.edu and you will be able to log in with your Penn State user ID (i.e., abc123) to cast your vote for this year's King and Queen. Each person is only allowed to vote once throughout the week. The King and Queen will be crowning after the Homecoming Parade on Friday evening (10/12) on the steps of Old Main during the Coronation Ceremony. I would love support from everyone, but most importantly I want people to get out and vote for who they feel reflects the pride and spirit of Penn State best! Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Howdy, women! Here is the retreat schedule for Sunday. Please plan to be outside of the School of Music around 12:40, and the cars will come! You can certainly also get to the church on your own if it's more convenient for you! Wear your grubbiest clothes, and we'll get some good work done, some good relaxing done, some good eating done, and some good "gettin' to know ya" stuff done too! Dr. Drafall Retreat Schedule Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel >From Marisa from Concert Choir.... :o) Sign up to work at the concession stand this weekend and make money to pay for your choir expenses. We are always looking for people to help us out, and you have a great time while making money ($40-$60). You also get to experience PSU football if you don't have tickets. Call this weekend is 11 am outside of the employee entrance to Beaver Stadium. Sign-up sheet is on the choir board outside 110. Contact Marisa at mfm5001@psu.edu or Chris and cbl5000@psu.edu for more information! Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi girls, Here is what each section is in charge of bringing - section leaders, please make sure you coordinate with your sections so we don't have too many overlaps! Soprano I's - Drinks Soprano II's - Healthy snacks (fruit, veggies, sun chips, etc.) and paper plates, napkins, cups, plastic forks Alto I's - Salty snacks (chips, pretzels, popcorn, etc.) Alto II's - Sweet snacks (cookies!) Also, someone asked me in rehearsal if I had extra copies of the paper that had our performances on it. I don't, but if you go to our website Jillian has it posted online! Thanks girls, Allie Sunday, September 30th, 2007 Email from V.P. Jessica Angeline Hey girls, BeAuTiFuL jOb last nite! We really showed all those parents what most of the school already know....yes, we're kinda of a big deal. haha, anywho, on to business... MONDAY PLEASE BRING YOUR DRESS MONEY... $88 CHECK TO ORIANA SINGERS OR $88 CASH IN AN ENVELOPE/ZIPLOCK BAGGIE WITH YOUR NAME ON IT! Thanks so much girls. Can't wait for the next concert! Jessica C. Angeline Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 Email from Webmistress Jillian Woolridge Hello girls of Oriana! The website is updated and fully functional! All email announcements should be up within 24 hours of my recieving them, so if you have a habbit of losing emails in the junk box, now would be a good time to bookmark http://clubs.psu.edu/up/orianasingers/index.html . If not, still bookmark it... I promise I'm going to be a diligent webmistress, and any changes to calendar/etc. will be up in relatively short order, so the site should stay a reliable source of information. And (reason 3) it's a pretty website! (It'll be prettier once I get officer pics up next week, but for now the information is all correct). See you all saturday night, and we hope you feel better soon, Dr. Drafall! ~Jillian Woolridge, your Oriana Webmistress PS - I've been thinking of starting an "Oriana Memories" or "Oriana Quotes" page, documenting special moments in the choir. If anyone has any special such moments I can start a list and maybe, if it's worth it, get a page up. If Drafall's okay with it (we'll keep it clean!) it could called "Voices of the Choir" or something similar, kind of a testemonial to the uniqueness that is our group. Just an idea... :-) Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi ladies, I'll say it - we sounded absolutely wonderful today! Our concert Saturday will be beautiful. As a reminder, report time for Saturday is 7:25pm in Music Building I Room 110 (aka where we always practice). Please bring, well, nothing with you because we'll have no safe place for you to keep all of your belongings! For attire, it is fall-esque clothing or anything nice you have that will not draw unnecessary amounts of attention to you :o) Hair should be away from the face, and some makeup would be fab. Everyone get plenty of rest and get well! Allie PS - Thanks to everyone who joined my Homecoming group! I know it's really silly, but it means a lot to see I have the support from all of you since this choir really began my whole Penn State career. Monday, September 17th, 2007 Email from President Allie Gabriel Hi ladies, A couple of announcements: -Instead of a Social Chair, I am looking for someone interested in being our Choir Relations Chair. This person will be a liason between the other choirs Choir Relations Chairs and will help coordinate things like the All-Choir Concession stand at the games and any social events we do between the choirs. It would be a lot of fun, and I hope someone is interested! -Join the "Oriana Singers" facebook group! -Also, since Dr. Drafall broke the news to all of you, I'd love it if you joined my Homecoming facebook group that my friend Julia made for me. It's called "Allie Gabriel for Homecoming Queen" or something to that effect :) Invite your friends, and keep on the look out for information on when to vote! No matter what, it's going to be such a fun experience and I hope many of you can share it with me during Homecoming Week! See you all on Wednesday! Allie Thrusday, August 23rd, 2007 Email from Dr. Drafall Good afternoon, current and past women of Oriana! Please excuse me if you are receiving this email but will not be in Oriana Singers this semester... This is the only email list I have at present, and I need to get some information out... I do know that many of you graduated, and others have spoken to me stating that they cannot return because of schedule conflicts... The first rehearsal of Oriana Singers will take place on Wednesday, September 5 at 4:40pm in 110 Music Building I. (Remember that we take the first week of classes for auditions, and the monday following that is Labor Day.) ...can't wait to see you all again! Along with all our new members, we'll have Rachel Leese and Monica Bojan back with us again after spending time in cool foreign countries! Dr. Drafall p.s. One last chance...anyone who still has not yet let me know that you can NOT be a part of our choir this year? If so, here's your last chance! Email me ASAP only if you can NOT. Otherwise, I'll put your name on the roster! The Pennsylvania State University ©. All rights reserved. For assistance, contact Webmistress Shelby L. Smith : sls5134@psu.edu. |
