The Oriana Singers The Wenny Chandra Fan Club Alto Twos... like it on the bottom! Tuesday, February 24, 2009 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hey Ladies! Your favorite social chair here! Just wanted to fill you guys in on some stuff coming up! This weekend Elaina Mercurio and myself will be in a hilarious show called Schoolgirl Figure. It's a hilarious comedy about eating disorders which walks a fine line avoiding offense and keeping viewers in stitches! Both of us would love to see some friendly Oriana faces in the crowd. Next month, I will be hosting a chick flick and gossip night entitled "Whine Night". Chick Flick and date TBA. ALSO, I mentioned in class the option of doing a social with the glee club boys. I will give you guys more information on that as I find out about it. See you girls tomorrow and hope to see you guys out at the show. The Facebook group is in the link below: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=55184681882&ref=ts Much Love! Melissa Zabell Monday, February 9, 2009 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hey Guys, As social chair, I figured I'd take the initiative and ask if anyone would like to go attend the opera as a group. The tickets are only $5 and it's a nice alternative to the normal valentines day thing. Going and supporting Emily (who we all know is amazing) would be a really nice treat! Let me know by email. If I can get a small group together, I will collect money Wednesday and we will all head over and see it together on Saturday at 8p.m., maybe grabbing dinner beforehand. Much Love, Melissa Z Wednesday, December 10, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hey Girls! Caroling at the library is cancled due to the rain though I will be in the area to give out hats and music if anyone does show up. The HUB sing at noon to 1 however is still on. Tomorrow will be on rain or shine. See you girls! Melissa Monday, December 8, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hey Ladies! Caroling is happening THIS WEEK! Even if you couldn't carol this year, keep an ear out for us on wednesday and thursday. We will be singing near the library between classes at 11 and outside the HUB around noon on wednesday and by the tree at the end of the mall at 6 on thursday. If you have time, pop by and say hi! Just a reminder to the carolers that after rehearsal today, we will be making our santa hats and going over the music for caroling. I also will have lyric books made. I know this is a crazy week for everyone so please keep me informed if any of your plans change and affect when and where you can sing. See you at rehearsal! Melissa Zabell Wednesday, December 3, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hello Ladies! Just a friendly reminder that today, after rehearsal in eisenhower, we will be holding a rehearsal for caroling. If you couldn't make it last time, do not fear, we can catch you up. If you made it last time, there is still more to learn and I could use some help catching everyone up on what we did last week. This week we will officially iron out when and where we will be singing. There will be ONE more meeting after this one to do a final rehearsal, personalize santa hats, and go over any details we forgot. If you couldn't carol this year, do not worry. I am going to try to do this again next year starting much further ahead of time! See you tonight! Melissa Zabell Thursday, November 20, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hey Ladies! Just wanted to send out a reminder to everyone that the very first formal caroling meeting (learning songs, setting some things in stone) will be this afternoon!!!!! Get excited! We shall be meeting at 5:45 in the chambers lobby. From there we will go find an empty classroom. If you are going to be late, please text or call me and I will let you know what room we are in. My number is 845-797-1901. Over the coarse of this meeting, we will be learning 2 or 3 songs, discussing other songs we will sing, when and where we will sing, and other fun details. The meeting with be over at 7 AT THE LATEST! I understand some people have conflicts (class, NRT call backs, already home). If you missed this meeting, please meet up with me in Oriana after break so I can catch you up and make a time where I can teach you the music you missed. Hope to see a bunch of you there! "Just keep singing" Melissa Z Tuesday, October 28, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hello Ladies! After seeing all of you in your beautiful dresses this afternoon, I was inspired to brainstorm some more social event ideas. First, let me tell you my BIG ideas! (understand, I don't expect to do everything, though it would be nice) 1) Christmas Caroling- I thought it might be an interesting concept to go sing some holiday favorites around campus. I'm not sure of the details yet but it would be a small or medium group of singers who would probably rehearse for a few days, order some GORGEOUS sweatshirts, and then sing in the hub, by the library, downtown, etc. Obviously, I would have to iron out some things, maybe see if I can get THON approval and see if we can't raise some money while we carol. Maybe stretch out into the State College Community to visit schools or nursing homes. It would all in the hands of those who wanted to be involved. 2)Broadway Trip- Whether it's 3 people or 50 (preferably 50), I want to get us out of this state and over to the big apple to watch the power house performances on the big stage! After last year's failed attempt, I want to start planning early. Let me know which shows you would want to see, your price range, and any other info you find relevant. Even if only 2 people plus myself want to go, we'll go. If 10 want to go, then we'll have 2 cars. As soon as a bus price becomes reasonable, we'd do that. 3)Jesus Christ Super Star- Well, Jesus Christ Super Star is coming to the Eisenhower Auditorium on February 3rd so I thought it might be fun to get a group together to go see it! This is obviously a cheaper option than broadway costing either 34 or 40 dollars and nothing in transportation fees. I could call and try to reserve/ block off some seats for us so we can all sit and enjoy the show together. 4)Hershey Park Trip- This would be in April most likely (aka when it's warm). We'd take a day trip and hit up the park one weekend. Once again, depending on the interest, we would either use cars or take a bus. Automatically, 4 people can jump in my car so once again, if a few people are interested in this option, it's on! So those are the Big Ideas, here are the small: Disney Sing Along Night: If you missed Disney Movie night, here would be your chance to make up for it. A night of singing and regressing to childhood once more with a new disney classic (TBA/ decided by you) only this time, we shall sing! Chick Flick Night: Well if we're going to be an all girl's choir, why not enjoy the perks! Another movie night so as to enjoy movies targeted at us beautiful young women. West Dinner Night: I know I see a bunch of you there after rehearsals, so why not make if official a day or two. I know I sometimes have no one to eat dinner with so I'll try to start designating a day or two where we can all head over to west together and grab a bite to eat! Battle of the Sections: I thought it might be cute to do an end of the year picnic in the spring semester out on HUB lawn. We could do a potluck like we do for retreat and maybe play a game or two, altos versus sopranos at kickball or dodgeball or something fun like that. Sorry, I know this was a long email but I wanted to grab your opinions on these ideas and see what the interest was so I can focus my efforts. Obviously, the caroling would be this semester so I would definitely need to know if that is something you want to do! Hoping to hear from you! Melissa Z Monday, September 22, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hey Ladies! Wednesday, March 19, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hello Girls, PLEASE REMEMBER TO BRING IN YOUR MONEY!!! IF YOU FORGET IT AND STILL WANT TO COME, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I AM GOING TO NEED A LOT OF GIRLS TO GIVE ME MONEY TODAY IF WE ARE TO GO. If we do not have enough interest, we will try for another year and possibly try for another way for the interested girls to see a play on that date. See you in a few hours, Melissa Zabell Tuesday, February 19, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hey Everyone! Your friendly social chair here once again. I have been doing an intense amount of research and once again I am sorry to say, the hope has been dashed for simple solutions. Avenue Q is no longer in Philly and the next musical I found group tickets for (hairspray) is playing the weekend before finals week and I personally wouldn't feel comfortable going away that weekend. GOOD NEWS THOUGH! I found tickets for BROADWAY!!!! I received a lot of emails expressing interest in the shows Avenue Q and Spring Awakening so I got a few ticket prices and am working on bus prices now. I thought I would throw out the idea of the trip happening April 12th, right between our two concerts. If someone could let me know if that terribly conflicts with a big penn state event that would be great. I'll talk more about this at rehearsal tomorrow but everyone please think over if you want to come and/or would be able to come on the 12th. I'm going to try to get a rough number of interested people so I can start reserving things and make this happen! Yours Truly, Melissa Zabell ps. Does the idea of Hot Chocolate Wednesdays appeal to anyone while we wait for it to be warm enough for monthly creamery mondays? Let me know! Broadway Trip Spring 2008 Thursday, February 7, 2008 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hello Everyone! It's your friendly neighborhood Social Chair! I'm here to talk to you about our possible BROADWAY TRIP!!!! Sadly, as I do more and more searching, I am finding that it shall be nearly impossible for us to go see the color purple since this is the final month it is playing. Since it would be such short notice and the performance is moving to arizona I am sorry to say that seeing The Color Purple is not an option :( If someone searches and finds information to differ from that I discovered PLEASE let me know ASAP. Other show options are available however. The ones I have discovered include: Avenue Q Candide A Catered Affair Chicago A Chorus Line Cry-Baby Curtains Grease Gypsy Hairspray Jersey Boys Legally Blonde The Lion King The Litte Mermaid Mamma Mia! Mary Poppins Passing Strange The Phantom of the Opera Rent South Pacific Spamalot Spring Awakening Sunday in the Park Wicked (I'm not a hundred percent on these since they are VERY hard to get a hold of) Xanadu Young Frankenstein Please look over this list and pick out a few of your favorites. I'll be bring it up next rehearsal. It will be either on a saturday or sunday. Most likely a day trip involving a bus. I don't know how many people would feel comfortable driving in NYC so I feel chartering a bus would be our best option. While sending out this email, I'm asking that if anyone has any other social ideas, please let me know! See you in rehearsal! Melissa Zabell Sunday, November 11th, 2007 Email from Social Chair Melissa Zabell Hello everyone, It's that time of the month again!
